mycobacteria

Distinct genus of oxygen-dependent (aerobic) bacteria comprising around 100 species. For humans, one of the pathogenic agents is Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which triggers tuberculosis. For reasons of safety, the proof of efficacy against tuberculosis pathogens is carried out with the apathogenic strain Mycobacterium terrae ATCC 15755. Suitable disinfectants have the tuberculocidal spectrum of activity, or may be mycobactericidal in case they are also effective against the test organism Mycobacterium avium.
