Infections that are associated with “devices” (aids and primarily medical devices that are used for the treatment and care of patients) are some of the most serious nosocomial infections — including primary sepsis (bloodstream infection) or ventilator-associated pneumonia. The reason is that measures involving damaging the skin barrier are associated with an increased risk.
