Prevention of device-associated infection

Infections that are associated with “devices” (aids and primarily medical devices that are used for the treatment and care of patients) are some of the most serious nosocomial infections — including primary sepsis (bloodstream infection) or ventilator-associated pneumonia. The reason is that measures involving damaging the skin barrier are associated with an increased risk. The German Commission for Hospital Hygiene and Infectious Disease Prevention (KRINKO) issues guidelines for preventing these infections and regularly updates them based on scientific findings.
