biofilm

Thin, slimy film formed by microorganisms – including bacteria  and mould fungi  – provided that there is sufficient moisture and nutrients. This film, in which the microorganisms can multiply, protects the stored organisms from dehydration and access by active substances and thus poses a problem for disinfection. In hygiene, inadequately reprocessed surface wipe dispensers filled with surface-active substances can lead to biofilm formation – a risk that can be minimised by using ready-filled disposable products.
