Eukaryotic (with a cell nucleus) living organisms that are neither plant, animal or bacterium and thus form an independent group. When it comes to hygiene in healthcare, moulds, filamentous fungi (dermatophytes) and in particular yeasts are relevant as they can cause lower respiratory tract infection, bloodstream infection (sepsis), urinary tract infection and surgical site infection.
Disinfectants require the yeasticidal (test organism: Candida albicans) spectrum of activity to be active against yeasts relevant in health care and the fungicidal spectrum (additional test organism: Aspergillus brasiliensis) for all fungi.
