prevention

With regard to infection control, the term prevention refers to measures taken to avoid or delay diseases or make them less likely (primary, secondary and tertiary prevention). Accepted prophylactic strategies are published in recommendations and cover basic hygiene, prevention of surgical site infection, device-associated infection, primary sepsis and measures for antibiotic-resistant and special pathogens. Hygiene is a particularly important measure to prevent nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections.
