Examination gloves are non-sterile gloves in sizes XS to XXL. Although a medical device, they are also an element of personal protective equipment (PPE) as part of the barrier precautions of basic hygiene. From an occupational health and safety perspective, the focus is on protecting staff from contamination. However, due to its barrier function, PPE also prevents the further spread of pathogens and thus serves to protect staff and patients from infection. Examination gloves are used during procedures that do not require sterile conditions, e. g. blood sampling, administration of medication via peripheral venous catheters or dressing changes. Materials most commonly used are natural latex, nitrile and vinyl.
