terminal disinfection

Final systematic treatment (surface disinfection) of areas or rooms (e. g. before a new patient is admitted) where patients colonised/infected with certain pathogens were treated or accommodated. This is how an incident-related terminal disinfection differs from the ongoing routine disinfection. The appropriate spectrum of activity is selected depending on the pathogen type, but should be at least bactericidal, yeasticidal and virucidal against enveloped viruses.
