terminal disinfection

Final systematic treatment (surface disinfection) of areas or rooms (e. g. before a new patient is admitted) where patients colonised/infected with certain pathogens were treated or accommodated. This is how an incident-related terminal disinfection differs from the ongoing routine disinfection. The appropriate spectrum of activity is selected depending on the pathogen type, but should be at least bactericidal and yeasticidal.
