rub-in method for hand disinfection
Method for distributing hand disinfectants (HD) as evenly as possible and without gaps on the hands’ skin to avoid gaps in coverage. The so-called “responsible rub-in method” leads to the best results and is recommended by the scientific advisory board of the German “Aktion Saubere Hände” (Clean Hands Campaign) as follows:
- Staff must be trained in how to disinfect the hands (black-light lamp).
- Apply sufficient HD to dry hands. The hands must be “wet”.
- Rub HD into the entire hand, paying special attention to the main contact points and pathogen reservoirs (fingertips and thumb, nail fold).
- The hands must be kept moist for the exposure time as specified by the manufacturer, but at least for 30 seconds.
